Guardian Homes

Here at King Family Ranch we have decided that to provide the BEST possible home for each of our adult dogs that it would be in their best interest to place a few into Guardian Homes. You may have heard this term before, as many other breeders have added this option to their programs. This provides a way for us to expand while also keep our bloodlines broad…. while providing loving homes and families for our dogs. A loving home is of utmost importance to us! We are still in the beginning stages and will adjust as needed.

Guardian families will be expected to provide for their puppy/dog a loving home, proper exercise, proper nutrition of high quality dog food and attend to their regular medical/health care needs outside of breeding. There will be NO up front cost for one of these puppies/dogs. All health care related to the breeding will be our responsibility. Basically you will get a loving, health tested family member at NO cost, While we retain the breeding rights.

When it comes to breeding; you will have to be able to recognize heat cycles and be within 75 miles of our home.

FEMALE GUARDIAN DOGS: No females will be bred until their health tests are complete. We will pay for health testing typically before the puppy/female joins your family. If they don’t pass testing they will not be considered for the program and will be sold as PETS ONLY. Females must past testing, be of age (typically second or third heat- also depends on specific female and her breed and size). Guardian families must keep intact females away from ALL intact males especially during the 2 to 3 week heat cycle. Females are brought back to the ranch for a few days during their heat, typically they aren’t ready to breed until after the first week of their cycle around day 7 and later ( they are in heat for 2 to 3 weeks but normally ovulate between day 7 to 14). Females will come back to the ranch about a week before their due date to have their babies in our home. As soon as puppies are weaned the Mama will go back to their Guardian Family. The amount of litters will depend on each female, typically 3 to 5 litters. The going back and forth between homes works very well.. as the mama dogs will know our family as well as yours and be comfortable in both places- around people that love and know them! Females will be spayed around 5 or 6 years old and then permanently live with their guardian family for the rest of their lives. This opportunity also ensures they will have an amazing retirement after babies with your family 🙂

MALE GUARDIAN DOGS: Males are much easier in some instances. They will spend a few days at the ranch when needed during female heat cycles. BUT obviously don’t have to spend an extended period at once. Guardian homes MUST be able to keep intact males away from any other intact females. Which means when you take them out and about- YOU MUST KEEP THEM ON A LEASH! You MUST not have any intact female dogs living in your home. NO exceptions. Males typically can be bred until 6 or 7 years old. If you decide on a male… just know that your male won’t be the only one we are using. So, chances are we wont be calling you every time a female comes into heat. We are very selective on which males are used for which females based on their genetics, health testing results and colors etc. After retirement, the male will be neutered and live the rest of his life with your family!

RETIRED FEMALES

If you are interested in a Retired Female- please let us know. We occasionally will rehome certain females to the right family- Just know that this is NEVER a RESCUE situation. Our mama dogs have been a part of our family and we will be very picky and choose the family that we see best fits the personality if each individual dog.
